Q: Which are the best countries in which to buy new homes?
That depends on your requirements. Most people look for something within their budget, with direct flights and warm weather. Others simply consider the investment potential or homes with rental guarantees, and never use the home for themselves. Up-and-coming countries include Cape Verde, Estonia, Panama and the far East. Other popular destinations for Brits are Spain, France, Portugal, Florida and Dubai.
Q: Can I fly out and see the property?
Yes. Many companies offer special inspection trips and take care of the flight, transportation and accommodation details for you, so you don't have to worry. For more details, call our Freefone sales inquiry line on 0800 310 1970
Q: I want to buy a home, but I can't look after it all-year-round. Who can help?
Management agencies will clean and maintain your property for a fee. Your agent should be able to recommend some.
Q: I've heard that I can get guaranteed income from my home abroad. Is that true?
Many companies will offer a limited guaranteed income. Typically, this could be 8% for a couple of years. However, the French government-backed Leaseback scheme often pays 4% over 10 years or more. For more information see the individual property details.
Q: Will I have to pay tax?
You may, so it's worth considering that in your budget, but it varies from country to country. Some, such as Dubai, are tax-free. However, it is wise to seek specialist tax advice before buying your place in the sun.
Q: I have heard properties referred to as 'off-plan'. What does this mean?
The term 'off-plan' means that the property is planned, but is not yet built. Buying this way usually means that you will obtain a hefty discount on the price once it is completed. However, as with all overseas property purchases, it is vital to take legal advice.
